This is accomplished by planning, developing, promoting, and implementing recreation programs of a wide scope.
It is also accomplished by providing and ensuring a high level of customer service which greets and interacts with customers, registers patrons for programs and memberships, and responds to customer concerns or suggestions.
Other duties may include providing various forms of administrative service, scheduling, assisting with special events, contributing to or developing strategies for marketing materials, ability to work in a team environment, and interfacing with other City employees and citizens.
This position provides direction to other employees.
Essential Functions The information listed below is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.

Coordinates recreational activities by planning, developing, implementing and evaluating programs, recruiting and retaining professional service providers, setting up schedules, marketing, securing sponsorships, providing accounting services, including payment of professional service providers, monitoring attendance, answering questions and concerns related to activities, and organizing registrations.
Coordinates Mobile Recreation Unit program by planning and developing community engagement programs including but not limited to recreational, wellness and educational activities.
Further, travels to various sites in the community to implement programs, responsible for activity set up and take down, maintaining inventory and recommending additional supplies for the Mobile Recreation Unit.
Provides various forms of customer service by providing a safe and welcoming environment, greeting customers, answering questions, responding to concerns, answering and directing incoming calls, processing memberships and registrations, including inputting information into computer system and by distributing equipment to members and guests.
Provides various forms of administrative service by monitoring equipment safety, inspecting facility for safety and cleanliness, supervising patrons, providing first aid as needed, assisting in membership and class sales, processing of electronic funds and payments, conducting orientations, scheduling of facility space, maintaining records, providing documentation for budget preparation and monitoring.
Assists with special events by facilitating coordination of events, providing services as required by the type of event, assisting with event set-up and break-down and attending and supervising special events.
Provides direction to other employees by serving as Manager on Duty as assigned, trains and assists with staff training and contributes to employee performance appraisals as assigned.
Job Requirements Education & Experience Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field.
A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Bachelor's degree with no prior relevant work experience; OR Associate degree plus four (4) years of relevant work experience; OR High School diploma or equivalent plus eight (8) years of relevant work experience Education in Parks and Recreation or a related field is preferred.
Experience in Parks, Recreation and Tourism; Therapeutic Recreation; Gerontology/Nutrition; Kinesiology, Sports Management or Physical Education, or a related field is preferred.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Certification and Other Requirements Valid Class C Driver's License CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment Work Schedule This position contains a varied work schedule that includes working days, evenings and weekends.
The employer has the flexibility to adjust an employee's working hours as needed and at their discretion.
Supplemental Information Reading Intermediate - Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias.
Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college.
However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Math Basic - Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations.
Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school.

Writing Intermediate - Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.

Health & Dental Insurance The City of Allen offers a choice of two PPO Medical Plan options for full-time employees.
Vision insurance is included through enrollment in either of these plans.
Employees also have the option of participating in an indemnity Dental Plan.
Coverage is available to all full-time employees and their dependents under these plans at group rates.
Employee insurance coverage goes into effect the first day of the month following 30 days of employment.
Insurance Coverage Basic Group Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment protection is provided to eligible full-time employees in the amount of one time the annual salary up to a maximum of $250,000 for each benefit.
Long-Term Disability Insurance is provided at no cost to full-time employees.
The City of Allen also offers optional programs that include Short-Term Disability, Voluntary Supplemental Life, Dependent Life and Voluntary AD&D insurance group rates.
Flexible Spending Accounts Participation in Flexible Spending Accounts through payroll deduction for Health Care and Dependent Care expenses is also available for full time employees.
Wellness Program The City of Allen administers a wellness program for full-time employees which provides premium reimbursement for participation in various wellness programs throughout the year.
Workers Compensation All employees are covered by workers compensation for injuries sustained in the line of duty.
Holidays Employees receive nine paid holidays per year, including one personal day.
Vacation Employees with less than ten years of service are eligible to earn 120 hours per year.
Employees with ten or more years of service are eligible for 160 hours per year.
Sick Leave Full-time employees on a 40-hour workweek shall accrue 4.
62 hours towards sick leave per pay period.
There is no limit to the amount of sick leave hours accrued.
Retirement The City of Allen participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS):
All full-time employees must participate in the Texas Municipal Retirement System.
TMRS is a qualified tax deferred retirement plan under Section 401 of the IRS.
Seven (7%) percent of gross earnings are deducted each payroll as a pre-tax deduction and deposited into the member account.
When an employee becomes vested and retires, the City provides 2-to-1 matching contributions.
The City of Allen also participates in Social Security.
Deferred Compensation The City of Allen offers an optional deferred compensation 457 plan in which employees can contribute a portion of their salary, before taxes, to a retirement account.
Longevity Employees who have been with the City of Allen at least a year receive $4 per month for every month worked.
